April 23, 10:30am-12:30pm Limited to 10 per class, face coverings required, preregistration required. The workshop is entirely outside, so dress for the weather. Class repeats May 14.
Fruiting Walls and Espalier training systems use a trellis system, and typically produce more fruit per square foot than conventionally trained fruit trees. We will cover various unique training systems for fruit trees that allow growers to maximize limited space while adding aesthetics to the garden. These training systems also make it easy to utilize disease-resistant varieties and insect nets that will allow for clean fruit at harvest. We will discuss apples, pears, cherries, plums, and peaches. The class will cover construction considerations, training, and which plants will succeed.
- Please note, this workshop will take place outside of the classroom environment for up to 2 hours and involves walking 45 minutes or more and standing on uneven and unpaved ground. If you would like us to provide seating for you during this time outside, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance of the workshop. Wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility aids are welcome but in some areas may be difficult (unpaved or grassy areas). Please get in touch with us directly if you have concerns or questions about your aid on the unpaved and uneven ground. Email us or call 360-966-5859
