Surprisingly hardy perennial succulent to 3-4′ tall with toothed, hairy margins. In summer, showy inflorescences of tubular coral flowers rise above the foliage and attract hummingbirds. Takes on bronze and red tints in cold winter climates. Requires very well drained soil. Heat and drought tolerant. Native to the chihuahuan desert in SW North America.
