Deciduous shrub with silvery foliage, growing 3′-6′ high and wide. Inconspicuous flowers are followed by small red or yellow berries that are soapy to the touch (hence a common name, soapberry). Nitrogen fixing and drought tolerant, suitable for poor soils. Native to much of the northern hemisphere, found in both eastern Washington, and in the San Juan islands.
