Beginning Willow Basketry

During this class, students will make a basic round stake and strand willow basket. Students will learn two basic weaves and go home with a finished basket made with their own two hands. Finished dimensions will be 4-6 inches in diameter by 3-4 inches tall. This type of willow basketry is of European tradition. Beginners welcome and all tools provided. Ages 12 and up welcome. Not suited for anyone with arthritis; it requires a lot of hand strength and will aggravate arthritis.

Shannon, of Whatcom Willow Works, has been making willow baskets for 15 years and teaching her craft off and on for 10 years. She harvests most of the material for her baskets and workshops locally. She loves to teach and share this ancient skill!
