Join Chef Ona Lee Weatherford as you learn to preserve fruits from trees, shrubs, and plants in their season. Class will cover canning fruits in syrup, jam, and freezing; as well as a discussion on crop sharing/trading with neighbors and other ideas to make sure nothing goes to waste after planting fruit trees and shrubs. Every method of preservation is hands-on, and you will have the opportunity to physically prepare and take home your work. You will also receive a class booklet with every method of preservation so that you can replicate at home. This class is suitable for all levels of skill, especially beginners. We can accommodate a wide range of physical abilities with notice, children 8 and older may participate with guardian supervision.
Ona Lee Weatherford has a rich resume of culinary and farm experience from across the country. She trained professionally in a Michelin star kitchen, but she learned preservation skills from her grandmother, Clara. She currently resides in Whatcom County and owns & operates Clara’s Canning.
